AMI Primary (3-6) Orientation Course

This course is intended to provide an introduction to the philosophy and practice of the Montessori approach for the Primary (3-6) level.

  • Introduction to Montessori

  • The Role of the Directress

  • The Role of the Assistant

  • Overview of the Planes of Development

  • The Child’s Mind from 0-6 Years

  • Order

  • Movement 0-6

  • Language

  • Independence

  • Prepared Environment

  • Freedom and Discipline

  • Social Development

  • Observation

  • Music and Art

  • Maintaining the Environment

  • Material Making Techniques

Duration

60 hours plus 9 additional hours of observations. Specific instruction how to observe will be given during the course. 

Certificate

This international certificate qualifies the student to work as an AMI Classroom assistant anywhere around the world. It is also a useful stepping-stone to the AMI Montessori Diploma and is invaluable for parents. The Certificate is awarded to students who have satisfied the 90% attendance requirements and have completed coursework to the required standard.

Marja-Leena Tyrväinen

AMI Primary (3-6) Trainer

Marja-Leena Tyrväinen became an AMI Montessori Primary Teacher Trainer at 2001. Since then she has been directing several Primary Courses in Finland and in Switzerland, co-directing courses in Romania, Denmark and Sweden. In addition she has been AMI examiner in different countries.

 

She received an AMI diploma for ages 3-6 in 1984 in the United States in California. She has experience in working with children over 30 years. Marja-Leena Tyrväinen holds a BA in Education and studies for Master’s degree are in process. She lives in Espoo, Finland with her family.
